Two 7-Eleven service stations will be built and operational in Shepparton by the end of the year, while a third is in the pipeline.
Greater Shepparton City Council has approved plans for two 7-Elevens, one at 35 Benalla Rd and another at 228-238 Numurkah Rd, which will bring up to 40 full-time, part-time and casual jobs to the city.
A planning application for a third 24-hour service station on Wyndham St at the intersection of Meaklim St is currently on public display at the council and online.
7-Eleven Retail Area Lead South Nick Maddox said the company would begin looking for staff in August.
“We’re really excited to be joining the community in Shepparton by making an investment that will create jobs and help drive economic growth for the area,” Mr Maddox said.
Mr Maddox said one of the crucial roles to be recruited would be a manager who could be trained and developed to lead the Shepparton area.
The proposed Meaklim St service station still needs to be ticked off by the council and regulators, with half the proposed site currently zoned for residential use.
Two blocks of land – one residential and one commercial – are proposed to be consolidated to form one 2021 sq m site.
The land to the north, west and east of the property is all zoned for residential and is occupied by houses, while the buildings to the south of the site are commercially zoned.
The site at 573-575 Wyndham St would be surrounded on three sides by residential properties.
Construction would involve knocking down the northern-most shop-front in the string of commercial buildings on the service road between Meaklim St and Wilmot Rd.
A residential property at 573 Wilmot Rd would also need to be demolished to make way for the proposed service station.
The service station is planned to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with two entrances on Wyndham St and a third on Meaklim St.
Plans remain on public display for comment until April 26.
